Terms

Simple terms, in plain English.

These terms cover how booking, prices, payment, refunds, cancellation and rescheduling work with Elysian Tutors. Last updated August 2026.

Who we are

Elysian Tutors is a trading name of ELEVATEOS EDUCATION LIMITED, registered in England and Wales, company no. 17329548. These terms are between you and ELEVATEOS EDUCATION LIMITED. Contact us at [email protected].

What we do, and who you contract with

Elysian Tutors is a marketplace. We screen tutors, publish their profiles, and run the platform you use to book lessons, pay for them and message your tutor.

Tutors are independent, self-employed suppliers. They are not our employees. Each tutor decides which subjects and levels they teach, sets their own rate within the bands below, and controls their own availability. When you book a lesson you are contracting for that tutoring with the tutor you chose. The tutor is responsible for teaching the lesson; we are responsible for screening, for the platform and for handling your payment.

We take your payment, hold it while the lesson is pending, and pay the tutor after the lesson has happened. We keep a share of what you pay for running the platform and the screening, safeguarding, support and payment work behind it. That share is already inside the rate you see, so nothing is added on top.

Lessons

A lesson is one-to-one and 60 minutes long, and is taught online. You book lessons one at a time: there is no subscription, no registration fee and no minimum commitment. We do not record lessons.

Prices

Each tutor sets their own rate, within a band we publish for the level: KS3 £30 to £50, GCSE £30 to £50, A-level £35 to £60, and admissions and Oxbridge preparation £55 to £90, per 60-minute lesson. We do not set a single price for a level.

The rate on a tutor's profile is the price you pay. There is no booking fee and nothing is added at checkout. ELEVATEOS EDUCATION LIMITED is not currently VAT-registered, so no VAT is added. A tutor can change their rate for future bookings, but a lesson you have already paid for is never repriced.

Booking a lesson

You choose a tutor from the directory, pick a slot from their calendar and pay at checkout. You can book a lesson from 12 hours ahead and up to 8 weeks ahead. When you start checkout the slot is held for 30 minutes; if payment is not completed in that time the hold ends and the slot goes back on the tutor's calendar. Your booking is confirmed, and your confirmation sent, once Stripe confirms payment.

How you pay

Payment is by debit or credit card, handled securely by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details. Card is the only payment method we accept, and any refund goes back to the card you paid with.

Blocks of lessons

Some tutors offer a discount if you buy a block of lessons in advance, usually ten. The discount is the tutor's choice, not ours, and is capped at 15 percent against their own single-lesson rate. Where a tutor offers one, the discount and the total are shown before you pay. Blocks are optional and single lessons are the normal way to book.

A block is bought from one tutor for one level and is held as lesson credits for the named student. The price is fixed when you buy it, so a later change to that tutor's rate does not affect credits you already hold, and credits do not expire.

You can ask for a refund of any credits you have not used. Unused credits are refunded at the discounted per-lesson price you actually paid, not at the tutor's full single-lesson rate, so refunding never leaves you better off than not buying the block. Lessons already taken are not refunded.

Cancelling a lesson

You can cancel a lesson from your account. With at least 24 hours' notice you get a full refund. With less than 24 hours' notice you get a 50 percent refund, because the tutor's time is reserved for your child and cannot be filled at that notice. If the student simply does not attend and the lesson was not cancelled, there is no refund.

If the tutor cancels, or does not attend, you get a full refund whatever the notice, and we record it against that tutor.

Rescheduling a lesson

You can move a lesson up to twice. Each move needs at least 24 hours' notice, and the new slot must fall within 28 days of the lesson's original time. Inside 24 hours a lesson cannot be moved; cancelling it instead is refunded under the rule above.

Your first lesson with a new tutor

If your first completed lesson with a tutor you have not worked with before is not right, tell us within 48 hours of it ending. Our staff review what happened and, where the claim is upheld, we refund that lesson in full or arrange a lesson with a different tutor. The guarantee covers the first lesson with each new tutor you try.

If a lesson goes wrong

If something was wrong with a lesson, raise a dispute from your account within 24 hours of the lesson ending. That holds the payment while our staff look into it. We ask both sides what happened, then either uphold the dispute and refund you, or dismiss it and release the payment. If you miss the 24 hours, email us anyway and we will do what we reasonably can.

Lesson reports

The tutor writes a report after every lesson, and reports are reviewed by us before they reach you. If your child has at least one lesson a week, you also get a short weekly summary covering that week, Monday to Sunday. Below one lesson a week there is no weekly summary, but you still get the report after every lesson.

Messaging

You can message your tutor through the platform once you have a paid booking with them. Please keep contact on the platform rather than moving to private email, phone or social media: it is a safeguarding requirement and it is how we can help if something goes wrong. Messages cannot be edited or deleted once sent, our staff can read threads where there is a safeguarding or support reason, and message content is kept for seven years after a thread was last active. Our privacy notice explains this in full.

If you would rather we chose for you

Choosing a tutor yourself is the usual route, but it is not the only one. You can ask us to match you instead: tell us what you need and we will propose a screened tutor for you to consider. Matching is free and there is no obligation to book. You still book and pay in the same way, and every term on this page applies.

Your right to cancel, and how to use it

You buy from us online, so this is a distance contract and you have a legal right to change your mind. You can cancel within 14 days without giving any reason. The 14 days start the day after we confirm your booking.

To cancel, tell us before the 14 days are up. A clear statement is enough. Email [email protected], or write to Elysian Tutors, ELEVATEOS EDUCATION LIMITED, Clare College (Memorial Court), Trinity Lane, Cambridge CB2 1TL. There is a form at the bottom of this section if you want it. You do not have to use it. What counts is that you send your cancellation before the deadline, not when it reaches us.

Cancel in time and we refund everything you have paid. It goes back to the card you paid with, within 14 days of you telling us.

If you want lessons to start inside those 14 days. We will not begin before the 14 days are up unless you expressly ask us to. The booking form asks you to confirm that in as many words. Ask us to start, then cancel during the period, and you pay only for the lessons already taught. We refund the rest. Once every lesson in the booking has been taught, the right to cancel that booking is gone, because you asked us to start early knowing that.

None of this affects your other statutory rights, including those under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The 24-hour and 4-hour rules further up this page are separate. They are our own policy, they sit on top of the right described here, and they never replace it.

Model cancellation form

You only need this if you want it. An email saying you are cancelling does the same job.
